Cartel Coffee Lab: 7124 E. 5th Ave. Scottsdale, AZ 85251
* I am not a food critic! I am just a hungry biker! I love to ride my bike to food and drink. I try to fairly review things like: bike parking, how welcoming they are to sweaty people with helmet hair, food/drink and price.
Cartel is located in Scottsdale’s 5th Avenue Shopping District, which is a very nice and quaint area with low traffic. It seems people in Scottsdale like to dress up a little, yet the vibe in Cartel is very casual. Shorts, lycra, helmets… it’s all good.
Cartel has a pretty big rack right by their front door, high-viz spot with continuous foot traffic.
The coffee in this place is incredible. It’s like nothing you have ever tasted, especially if you are the type that mostly drinks Folgers or whatever common supermarket brand. Adado (Chemex 20 oz): Adado is a roast from the micro-region of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia grown at incredible high altitudes. It is a light roast and it tastes a bit like blueberries. It is incredibly fragrant and the flavors are very complex, at least for me. I had them brew it on a Chemex which yields 20 oz… which is a lot! About two large cups. Pastry Banana Bread: The banana bread tasted good, it just wasn’t banana bread to me. I loooove banana bread, and have had it in many parts of the world. This was not my favorite. It was very, very sweet and gooey and it didn’t have any nuts (a must for me). However, if you are into sweet pastries this may be just the thing for you.
Adado (Chemex 20 oz) and Pastry Banana Bread: $9.25 (not including tax and tip)
This sounds steep for a cup of coffee and a slice of banana bread, and it’s definitely not cheap… but this coffee is truly a treat. If you want to save some money skip the pastry. If you want to save even more, split coffee with a friend, there’s plenty for two… however, you won’t want to! Sooo good!
Overall we say Cartel Coffee Lab is… bicycle friendly!
- Large bike rack in a good spot.
- Casual vibe.
- Delish coffee… you know roadies love their coffee!
