Tiny Tire Tweed Ride – Phoenix Spokes People, Brompton Mafia, PortaPedal Bike and Tempe Bicycle Action Group – Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa – 12.13.2015
“Don your dapperest tweed for our multi-city, multi-modal tiny tire extravaganza! Bromptons, Moultons, and all other small-wheel bicycles are welcome as we explore the valley using our bikes and lightrail! We’ll meet at Civic Space Park, go for a short ride for drinks, then hop on the train for Tempe! There, we will enjoy a short ride, stop for some libations or dinner, and hop a train to Mesa. We want to pack the train with our small-wheel bikes!”
As soon as I saw this event posted on Facebook I knew I was in. I love the idea of traveling throughout the Valley on bike and light-rail for libations, and, although I don’t own a tiny tire bicycle I am “small wheel curious.”
First a million thanks to PortaPedal Bike for lending me a Brompton demo for this ride. Even though all bikes were welcomed, I really wanted to get my hands on a tiny-wheeled bike. Al, Donna and Tom over at PortaPedal helped me find the best fit and I had a great time checking out the shop. If you are “small wheel curious” head over to PortaPedal. They carry Bromptons, Moultons and small-wheeled Cargo Bike Friday Haul-a-Day among others. Thank you Al!

The Brompton Mafia
Ready to roll!
Phoenix: Rose & Crown Pub
This isn’t a Brompton Mafia butt-sniffing ritual. This is everyone folding their bikes. This is what you do with a Brompton, you fold and unfold all day. No bike-lock necessary because you can take your bike with you anywhere.
And then everyone gets their Bromptons together because it’s just too cute.
Pilsner Urquell and chips. This was good.
And then we had to haul-ass to the light-rail. These bikes are surprisingly fast! Going through Phoenix on the Brompton was a blast. Everything was very busy because the Suns game was letting out, but it was so easy to maneuver the crowds on this little bike.
Al the business man.
Tempe: Priest Dr. and Washington St. Light-Rail Station
More Tempe people joined us across the bridge.
Tempe: Pedal Haus Brewery
More bike folding!
And more bike huddling. This one is actually pretty great though. That is a lot of Bromptons! Love all the colors.
And then it was just five of us heading off to Mesa.
First time taking the light-rail to Mesa!! First time going to Mesa for some of us.
Mesa: Main St.
Mesa is pretty dead on a Sunday night, but very pretty. Lots of art and lights.
Mesa: Desert Eagle Brewery Tap Room
Guzy giving a Brompton-folding-show to some of the patrons. They can’t get enough of the Guz.
Main Street Blonde Ale and popcorn. Hella good!
This may have been my favorite stop. The beers were finally kicking in, very casual vibe and great service. Good talks with good peoples.
The coolest shop in Mesa is for lease.
We skipped the light-rail and rode to our destinations. Guzy is Turbo ____.
